Temperatures will average several degrees below normal Wednesday through Sunday with much colder conditions midweek. Friday should bring milder air, then another drop at week’s end. Normal lows 21 to 33 and highs 36 to 44. Snow flurries expected with about three tenths inch of moisture.
South Korea's Foreign Minister Pyun Yung Tai condemned India's majority report on POW repatriation, accusing Korea of hindering explanations for over 22,000 anti communist prisoners. He warned New Delhi may align with communists, while officials expect the Jan 22 release and a stand by the United States and UN Command.
In Muskogee Oklahoma 17 year old Tommie Dene Doughty pleaded guilty to abducting an Indiana infant while babysitting in Evansville. She was sentenced to 21 years in prison. The child was recovered unharmed and prosecutors sought a harsher penalty while psychiatrists found her sane.
In Rome at Ava Gardner s villa Frankie Sinatra and Ava meet after arriving from Madrid where Sinatra flew from the United States to join his wife. Ava calls him honey but neither confirms if their differences are settled as they lounge with Humphrey Bogart during a holiday stay in Italy.
George D. Nye of Waverly announced his candidacy in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor, seeking a fourth term. Other announced candidates include Herbert S. Duffy of Columbus and John W. Donahey of Hudson, son of a former governor and former senatorial hopeful.
Funeral services for Richard Stanton Wolfe who died Sunday at age 46 will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Broad Street Presbyterian Church in Columbus. Burial will follow in the Green Lawn Cemetery family plot.
Economists at sessions of the American Statistical Association and related groups attacked the Chamber of Commerce proposal to expand Social Security while keeping a pay as you go system. They predicted a mild 1954 recession but did not foresee a deep downturn. Senator Knowland rejected recession fears while Ford officials praised automotive prospects. Rep Kean touted political appeal of broadening coverage and boosting benefits.

Two Americans, Pvt. Homer H. Cox of Tulsa Oklahoma and Leland H Towers of San Francisco, were released to U S authorities in Berlin. Cox had been missing from his military police unit since September 22 1949 and was thought captured in the Soviet sector. Towers disappeared in 1952 while on shore leave from his ship.
Thirteen year old Gerald Stark was pinned to the barn floor when a hayfork fell and stabbed him in the hip at Kirby Bess's farm in Flint Michigan. Bess used a hack saw to cut a tine and free the boy. He was taken to Goodrich Hospital for treatment.
Researchers from Notre Dame Harvard Dental School and the University of Chicago report a dual requirement for tooth decay food and bacteria. In germ free rats fed decay causing diets no decay occurred while control rats with bacteria lacking direct tooth contact also showed no decay. The findings suggest decay requires both bacteria and food.
President Eisenhower works from Augusta with aides Dr. Gabriel Hauge and Dr. Arthur Burns to craft replies to Democratic critics about a sagging business climate. They brought a preliminary outline of the economic report to be sent to Congress after the January 6 reconvening, with plans for the State of the Union address on January 7 and the annual budget message.
Ohio Selective Service director Col. C W Goble announced a presidential executive order will trigger reinduction of men released after as little as one or two days on active duty. The amendment ends equitable service concerns. those entering active duty after June 24 1948 will become 1 C only if separated after six months or more of honorable service.
The National Safety Council estimated the national traffic death toll over New Year’s weekend at 360. The council advised potential victims to start the new year by starting it safely.
Arthur Dow, 70, of Marietta, was killed here Sunday when struck by a taxicab. The accident happened as Dow was on the street, with investigators seeking details of the crash and identifying the taxi involved.
President Eisenhower formed a three man emergency board to avert a possible walkout by 15 non operating railroad unions affecting 150 railroads nationwide. The 60 day no strike period allows hearings and negotiations on terms, with unions seeking health welfare and fringe benefits while railroads contest bargaining under the Railway Labor Act. George Leighty, union spokesman, says carrier lawsuits have angered workers who may strike.
An explosion at an open pit clay mine of Negley Fire Clay Co near East Palestine Ohio caused about 75000 in damage. Company president Henry Schlueter blamed unknown persons. A power shovel bulldozer and drag line were damaged but no workers were present as the mine was closed for the weekend.
The Defense Department released its first monthly manpower report since the Korean War began. It records 3,455,954 service members at end of November across Army 1,502,552 Navy 778,057 Marine Corps 251,770 and Air Force 923,575, totaling 229,000 below the Korea peak of April 1952 and 51,000 under last January.
In Ironton Ohio a six year old named Johnny Earhart could not see the blackboard. His parents and Judge Warren Earhart consulted Dr John Dole who found no eye defect. Johnny explained a large boy sat in front of him blocking the view.
Zanesville Ohio Miss Helen May Smith aged 32 died Monday at her Roseville area home after choking on a piece of orange. Local authorities report the accidental death is being investigated.
St Louis police reserve seats for the premiere of The French Line starring Jane Russell. The Howard Hughes produced film faces Breen Office objections over a costume and a dance sequence, prompting a morality squad presence at the screening.
Gov. Frank J. Lausche of Ohio says he has no intention of seeking the Democratic presidential nomination in 1956. He noted he would not speak outside Ohio for three years, implying no looming ambitions beyond his state duties.

Judge George E. Kearns ruled three men Talmadge Raley Joseph Stern and Emmett C Brown were guilty of contempt of the Ohioan-American Activities Commission for testifying and claiming Fifth Amendment immunity. State law provided immunity, so federal constitutional privilege could not shield them. The ruling was to be appealed to seek Ohio Supreme Court guidance.
More than 1000 firefighters battled two San Gabriel Mountains blazes near Mt Wilson and Mt Baldy. Winds abated but flames crept toward observatory structures and nearby canyons. evacuations affected about 2500 people with 33 cabins burned and Parlier cabins destroyed in Santa Anita Canyon as crews from Bakersfield to San Diego rushed resources to federal state and county foresters.

An arson squad questioned several suspects as investigators probe the fifth fire at St William Roman Catholic Church in six months. The Monday blaze started in the basement near stored candles and spread through a fire door into the priests residence library. Over 1000 books and sacred items burned, stained glass and paintings damaged, pastor Francis A. Reardon offered no loss estimate.
Springfield police say Clarence Skaggs 32 confessed to fatally shooting Lonny R. Thompson 18 after a barroom argument. Thompson was from Springfield and Skaggs has prior burglary convictions. Authorities planned to use charges today.
