Meigs County Taxpayers Criticize Officials at League Meeting
At the Meigs County Taxpayers League gathering in the Courthouse, members praised the budget action that earmarked 65 000 for the general fund in 1940 while about 15 000 remained to cover overdraft. They opposed transferring gasoline tax funds to the general fund, urged monthly courthouse record checks, and backed a 40 hour work week for county employees with current hours from 8 a. m. to 11:30 a. m. and 1 p. m.

Heavy Snows Tie Up Meigs Traffic and Local League Actions
Heavy snows yesterday left Meigs County motorists stalled on Middleport Hill as fifteen cars backed up before town trucks cleared roads. No serious injuries were reported. The Meigs County tax league adopted resolutions demanding a grand jury probe of alleged prisoner work on Sheriff Beards farm and questioned the probation officer’s $150 salary. The group empowered its executive committee to pursue state examiner findings by legal means, signaling tougher action than prior resolutions.
