Foreman Moore of the Athens brick plant received an elegant gold watch from stockholders and employees at Christmas as a testimonial of esteem and personal regard. Dr Alderman, board of directors, gave the presentation speech. Mr Moore, surprised, thanked the group, which had kept the affair secret.

Death of Hon. J. W. Bayard announced to town
Announcement of the death of Hon. J. W. Bayard after several weeks of pneumonia illness. He dies about 1 o'clock Thursday morning in his 83rd year. A longer obituary is promised next week. Mrs. Thompson of Gallipolis visits her son, Mr. David Thompson, as an agreeable guest.

Last Monday evening Captain Ed A Weidler of Company H Chillicothe Ohio inspected Company B of the 17th Infantry O G at 7 30 p m in their armory. He and Lieutenant Hurst examined each private s arm clothing knapsack and haversack then drill and dismissal followed. Report pending but expected favorable. Officers present included 1st Lt and Regimental Adjutant Tiffin Gilmore Commissary Sergeant Ingham ex Captain H E Chapin Captain Welch. The Chillicothe group were entertained by Athena and guests at New Era Restaurant for oysters and lunch.

Tragic Fall From Porch at Bowkley Hotel
Dexter Powell of Glouster fell from a second story porch at the Hotel Bowkley after a railing gave way while he leaned on it. He was intoxicated at the time. Doctors say his injuries are believed to be fatal.
