Deborah Class of First Christian Church met at 73 N Congress St. for a Thursday session led by Mrs. E L Church. Christmas program Are You Ready for Christmas featured devotions by Mrs Dana Barnhill solo by Mrs Ida Allison and carols by all.
Mr and Mrs A D McPherson Sr hosted a home party at 162 N Congress St Friday honoring the 56th wedding anniversary of Mrs McPhersons parents Mr and Mrs H S Smith of 9 Watt St Four generations attended including Art McPherson Jr and his children Carol Lee and Tommy of Wooster Other guests included Mrs Art McPherson Jr and Mr and Mrs Kenny Smith of Lancaster.
A string of holiday visits spread through Athens Route 2 and nearby towns. Major and Mrs. L B Howson and daughter Linda visited from Fort Bevens Mass. Art McPherson Jr and family came from Wooster. Edwin McPherson and Jim Loosbourrow joined relatives in Lancaster and Ada. Weekend guests included Dr R J Acomb and son Jimmy from Mansfield, Miss Audrey Bolander from Marion, and Mr and Mrs Margaret Chevalier hosting Carl and Charlie Pyles of Youngstown. Private First Class Dick Silvas and Louis Bartlett returned to Shepherds Field Texas after Christmas leave with families in Mansfield and Lancaster. Mrs John Williams of Cuyahoga Falls stayed with C H Harris in Akron area. Christmas visitors to Mrs Ella England at Chauncey included Elmer Finsterwald and Erle Bridgewater Sr.
Mr and Mrs Gabriel Hanson of Black Eagle Montana announce the engagement of their granddaughter LeNore May Hanson to Calvin L Bean Jr son of Mr and Mrs Calvin L Bean Sr of 38 Race St Athens. The wedding is set for December 31 at the First English Lutheran Church in Great Falls. Bean is an Athens High School graduate and has just left the Army after serving with the weather bureau in Great Falls. The couple will live in Athens and Bean will work for Kroger Produce Co.
The Tau Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma held a Grange Hall Christmas party with a sleigh and tree as decor. Attendees included Ruth Evans, Harry Rose, Betty Henderson, Robert Butts, Elizabeth Moore, James Hallet, and many others plus inactive members and guest couples.
The Baker Neighborhood Council met with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Jacoby on Athens Route 1 last Tuesday. Guests included several local residents and ministers. Wharton gave the Farm Bureau report and Cowan led a rural health discussion. Refreshments were served and the session opened with Silent Night and the Lord's Prayer.
