Officials Warn Against Mid Winter Relief Breakthrough

State Welfare Director Charles Sherwood after a Columbus conference with Athens County officials endorsed a $15,000 county relief loan from the emergency fund to cover January and part of February. He also approved $24,000 for Muskingum County relief and was asked to endorse a $20,000 loan for Butler County food stamp planning. County officials note these loans nearly exhaust the emergency fund and discussed use of surplus road funds and other revenues to ease county relief burdens. The Nelsonville and Athens city contracts for relief maintenance expire December 31, with new contracts required for continued county relief after January 1.
