Fires ruin two area homes on Christmas Day
Christmas Day fires destroyed or damaged two area homes. In Chauncey a furnace explosion forced Mr and Mrs William Schoonover and their 11 month old child to escape a burning trailer at 16 Ellis Ave. Firefighters arrived after the telephone line burned, and the family lost all possessions and gifts. In Bear Wallow Ridge near the Athens Meigs line the Don Hooper family faced a similar disaster with their two story log house, leaving them in temporary quarters after the interior was destroyed.
