A House Armed Services subcommittee mails disability retirement questionnaires to 2953 Army and Navy officers of colonel rank and above. Chairman Elston says the inquiry seeks fairness and will study inequities, with later mailings possibly extending to majors.
A Meigs County bulldozer operator cut a 400 foot road to reach Ray Lantz who was trapped in a shovel cab after a tree slipped from the spoil bank and pinned him. Vern Wells and Fleming and Jobb officials credited Wells with lifesaving aid and rapid access for ambulances. Lantz, 56, remained in critical condition with multiple fractures at Martz Clinic in Pomeroy.
Ohio State University College of Agriculture reports October figures showing poultry growers earned little more than $2 a day on average. 154 producers with 41 426 hens laid 5 053 872 eggs. eggs sold for 59.2 cents a dozen. Production averaged 12.2 eggs per bird. feed costs up 30 percent from 1946 while egg prices rose only one percent.
Auto dealer Jack Singleton's remaining properties will be sold January 15 under bankruptcy terms to satisfy about 350 customers who paid deposits on used cars but did not receive delivery. He faces over $700,000 in claims across three states and is jailed on $110,000 bond after a grand jury indictment for larceny by trick and embezzlement.

Public utilities in Trumbull County will pay 1948 taxes on a $34,893,260 valuation the highest in history. Auditor William C. Trimbur reported the gain, noting it is $937,630 more than last year and marks the eighth consecutive valuation increase in the county.

The child was found dead in bed by her mother Jessie Downard who returned from work as a waitress.
