A 15 year old from a broken home receives a new suit, pajamas, underwear, socks and a handkerchiefs from Athens police chief Joseph Grogan acting as middleman for a benevolent anonymous donor. The boy, initially stunned, returns the items with gratitude and leaves the station with renewed Christmas spirit.
Athens Elks lodge members prepared twenty four food baskets for county families. Fire Chief C A Parker and C J Allstock led deliveries using city and Ohio Fuel Gas trucks from Albany to Amesville. Each basket included chicken potatoes cranberries celery corn tomatoes soup beans a holiday cake and assorted staples for a Christmas feast.
Hogs 2300 open moderately active with 180-275 lb to 19.75 and 1400-1550 lb sows steady. cattle 700 with good prices for steer and heifer classes. calves light yearlings steady. slaughter lambs steady with prime lambs around 30.90 and ewes up to 14.00. The Athens Church of the Good Shepherd holds a Christmas carol service with Holy Communion on Christmas Eve. Prelude begins 10 15 pm with an organ solo by Mrs. Phillip J Woodworth followed by violin solos by Mrs. Richard R Selleck and a tenor vocal by Hol lace E Arment. Processional at 10 30 pm. White Cross Hospital Co of Columbus seeks recovery of 937.49 from Athens County commissioners in Common Pleas Court. The claim covers indigent care for four patients referred from Athens welfare and aid for aged agencies. commissioners say aid for these persons was not authorized.
David W. Taylor of 618 W. Union St. pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was fined $125 and costs and sentenced to 10 days in jail by Mayor W. P. Mickle after a city police arrest.
Transfers include Billy Gene McLeod of Athens County to C. A. Cody of Waterford for Carthage real estate. Watt McDonald of Glouster sells Lot 161 in Jacksonville to James Cominisky and wife. Edna M Hoociet of Athens and others convey Inlet 101 in Athens to Edna M Townsend.
Twenty seven needy Athens County children were taken on a shopping trip in Athens Saturday by Jaycee members who raised about $300. Chairmen Robert Baur and Tony Agnone said the youngsters received cash to buy personal items and gifts. They later watched a movie at Varsity Theater and were given candy. leftover funds will fill three grocery baskets for needy families.
