Plane Crash in Monongahela River Seriously Injures Dozens

An airliner carrying 28 men crash landed in the Monongahela River near Pittsburgh. Eighteen survivors were rescued, ten missing, many pulled to shore by rescuers forming human chains. The DC-3 chartered plane from Newark to West Coast forts sank in icy water. pilot Harold Poe, missing, guided the crash landing before vanishing beneath the surface.

Fire Destroys Family Home in Huntington

James Lee Vance went to town three days before Christmas to pick up toys for his three children from the Salvation Army and returned to a home completely destroyed by fire. No one was injured. firemen could not save the small rented dwelling. Furniture clothing bedding cooking utensils groceries and a Christmas tree were lost. Loss estimated at 4500 dollars.

Four Year Old Dies in Denver Fire Tragedy

In northeast Denver a two story apartment blaze claimed the life of four year old Annie Zell Hysaw. The child’s mother Alzone Hysaw was away at work and unable to be located for hours. The burned body was found curled around a stool in a second floor bathroom after she apparently fled to the back of the apartment.
