Cincinnati December 22 Roosevelt era report says a nationwide hotel and restaurant workers strike could follow if the code for their trade is adopted. Robert B. Hesketh, general secretary treasurer, called the code rotten and cited a 54 hour week and wages dropping from 28 to 23 cents an hour in the south.
Five year old Patricia Dougherty died in a Cleveland hospital after being struck by a car while walking to view Christmas toy displays in store windows. The incident occurred in Garretsville, Ohio, on December 22.
About 27 000 truck and delivery drivers quit work in Philadelphia bringing food supplies and commerce to a standstill. Pickets blocked plants and mercantile houses while National Labor Board efforts aimed to end the walkout and bring drivers back to work.
Police in Chicago cornered three gunmen in a Rogers Park apartment with 200 officers involved. The slain men, suspected Dillinger gang members, were found with seven Luger pistols, two shotguns, three revolvers and five bullet proof vests. No officers were injured.
Two men robbed the state automobile license agency housed at the home of Mrs. Jessie McFadden, 51, in Pataskala Ohio last night and fled with 600 dollars. Police described the suspects and launched a search.

The House Ways and Means Committee voted a liquor tax bill setting a 24 per gallon levy on whiskey. He is in Ohio County Jail on charges of embezzling $9,000 from a Wheeling Bank where he was assistant trust officer. Glaser, member of a prominent Bellaire family, was arrested today.
Columbus December 22 Governor White ordered the release of twenty two liquor law violators from three state penal institutions. He also granted Christmas clemency to four other prisoners and commuted their sentences so they would expire immediately.

Alexander H. B. Jeffords seeks divorce from Cynthia Ann Jeffords in Cleveland courts after a magistrate here finds near nudity insufficient grounds. Judge C. H. Curtiss dismissed both petitions as Mrs. Jeffords wore a brown outfit and neighbors testified about her garden attire. Jeffords plans to pursue the case further despite the ruling.
Federal Civil Works administrator Harry L. Hopkins ordered the Ohio CWA to reduce its workforce by 15000. Ohio’s quota stands at about 220000 with current employment around 235000, and Hopkins said reductions could occur without layoffs by not filling vacant positions.
In Cincinnati on December 22 40.P Fred K Hoehler Hamilton County CWA administrator warned drastic action after 300 CWA workers refused to turn in shovels delaying the afternoon shift. The men demanded Christmas pay and were told payrolls were not ready with checks unavailable until today. They continued working while digging holes they called graves for the pay masters.
Columbus attorney Harry L. Kidd, convicted of manslaughter, became inmate No. 67795 at Ohio Penitentiary after a fugitive period ending with capture at his father’s home. He will serve a 1 to 20 year sentence for the death of 19 year old Josephine Gordon in an April automobile crash in Columbus.

Public Utilities Commission chief inspector H M Evans blamed Harry Gresham Huntington W V for speeding around a curve at Stop 52 53 at at least 60 miles per hour where regulations limit curves to 30 miles per hour.
In Lima on December 22, prices for liquor climbed as the holidays neared. Better grades sold at drug stores for 4 to 6.50 per pint, blended brands from two dollars upward. Bootlegged liquor remained available at 50 cents per pint and up.
In Bryan Ohio four men with shotguns robbed the Williams County Hardware Store locking 15 customers in the basement and taking about 200. Hours later the same gang is believed to have netted 3000 from the Sears Roebuck store in South Bend Indiana.
Ohio legislature approves a liquor control bill creating a state monopoly on package liquor sales and liquor by the drink in licensed outlets. The bill heads to Governor White for signature with local option features and a projected April 1934 start for glass sales.
