Common Pleas Court authorizes sale of church land at 345 Richland Ave to John W. Galbreath and Associates for 65000. Only the land is sold, preserving the wooden-framed building for the unincorporated society, which will use part of the site for a new structure.
Cub Post 56 awarded Ron ne Rose and Mike Disc o with Webelos Arrow of Light. Other honors went to Gary McVey Bobcat pin Mike Seifrit and Mike Buell with service stars and bear badges. A Christmas skit followed social hour under Den II led by Mrs Ann Kelton.
Temperatures in Athens rose to 56 with a bright sun after a frigid week. Thursday morning's low was 36 with a two degree rise by 10 a.m. Rainfall measured .08 of an inch per U. S. Observer C. L. Colmer.
Twenty seven Athens Countians were excused from Common Pleas Court jury service for various reasons. Several jurors were excused to protect their interests, others due to physical inability, and a number granted exemptions. George Campbell was excused but without a stated reason.
Edwin Walter Peura aged 22 of 98 W State St was found guilty in Municipal Court of driving while intoxicated He was fined 125 plus costs sentenced to six days in jail with three suspended placed on four months probation and deprived of driving rights for four months.

State Highway Patrol said Elizabeth Boling, 57, of Chauncey swerved to miss two dogs crossing Route 13 north of Athens on Tuesday afternoon, sending her car off an embankment but causing no injuries.
Eunice L. Taylor, former Ohio University Elementary Training School teacher, died at a niece’s home in Burbank California. A 1915 OU graduate, she taught at Rio Grande College until 1920 and served as a critic teacher at OU until 1928. Survived by sister Adaline Poston and brother Scott Taylor.
