Christmas Poultry Receipts Better Than at Thanksgiving
OMBROS December 19 a large shipment of poultry left Pomeroy Band on the Liberty bound for Fitzburgh holiday markets. Turkeys and coop shipments from Pea Bergh boosted the market with prices around 33 cents, stronger than Thanksgiving. A truckload of poultry from the same area exited Saturday morning. the boat will reach Pittsburgh Monday evening with 1.8% coop cargo, up 400 coops from Thanksgiving. Beegle has bought fields from J. S. Yesner Maggie and W. Nis for 15 years. Yeager raised 125 head last year earning 460 dollars. this year 82 head sold for 267 dollars. The flock’s movement was limited by nearby food supplies, reducing stray trips. Christmas poultry sales will bring cash to producers, though not as high as postwar booms, with cheaper meat and locally lower bean prices. Red kidney beans at 11 for 2 pounds, white beans at 9 cents per pound, meat prices down.
