Snow and Cold Shutdown Athens County Schools
Snow and freezing temperatures led to widespread school closures across Athens County. Two inches of fresh snow plus icy roads prompted drivers to slow as five in another car and four in a truck escaped injury after a collision on Richland Ave. State highway crews, county workers, and city teams labored through the night to clear main routes and keep travel possible amid continuing winter conditions. Milk deliveries to the city were delayed but expected to resume today. Weather observer Mrs. C N France reported 11 inches of snow in the past nine days.
