Mrs Alice Johns Lash wife of E R Lash Sr of Athens druggist died at home 15 South College Street at 8 this morning after a December 6 stroke. Funeral Saturday 2 pm at home with Rev A Y Wilcox, burial West Union Street Cemetery. Born Clayville Ohio December 7 1851 she moved to Athens 1870 married 1875, survived by husband a son and a daughter and three sisters.

Mrs. Hattie Durant aged 71 died after a gasoline can exploded while she lit a stove at her Guysville home. Local merchants donate candy and toys for sacks in each package while Girl Reserves and Girl Scouts prep dolls and animals for distribution to Peach Ridge and Rufus Putnam schools. Lieut. John H. Davies, Army aviator attached to Luke Field, was severely injured when a parachute slipped from his shoulders during gunnery practice aboard a bombing plane. The chute opened after he was sucked through slats in the cockpit floor, throwing him into the sea hundreds of feet below. Speedboats rescued him in a semi conscious state.

A R Culbertson will team with Theodore Lightner of Detroit against Sidney Lens and Oswald Jacoby in tonight’s bridge challenge. Lightner replaces Mrs Culbertson to free her for family evenings through Christmas. Mrs Culbertson led by 410 points but must play in at least 75 rubbers by agreement.
