Athens woke to a sharp driving snow that began around 8 am and buried streets by 10. The Hocking River rose as waterlogged routes and backwater closed many roads. Only the Athens Parkersburg highway remained open with detours and slow routes to Circleville and Columbus.
Virginia Military Institute in Lexington placed under quarantine through December 29 after four confirmed cases of infantile paralysis with two or three doubtful. One case is serious. Students from 35 states cannot return home for Christmas but will get a New Year furlough extension.
Clifford J. Kunker, 29, died when the car left the old Troy pike and struck a telephone pole at 1 am. The driver, Roy Dickerson, 24, was arrested pending investigation.
Dee Logan and companions Frank Cull Ralph Matheny Floyd Wright and Tom Vancuren return from a hunting trip in Pennsylvania claiming five deer shot. Two of the deer were transported back to Ohio.
Columbus, Dec 16. Indications show Logan Gas may wait months to know if it can raise natural gas rates in Ohio cities. The Public Utilities Commission recessed the hearing to Jan 25 with possible open dates Jan 26 and 27.
A hospital fire in Annapolis Md on December 16 sent forty two patients to safety with nurses assisting. Seven new mothers were among those evacuated and a hysterical mother worried for her newborn baby until the child was saved and shown to her.

Chicago reports a two day old baby was allowed to die after doctors and parents decided surgery would not save a life doomed to paralysis and imbecility. Dr Martin Schupman and Ray Cullen could not be reached for verification. hospital officials confirmed the infant's death but declined further comment.
Athens county health commissioner Dr J H Higgins orders all dogs in York and Dover townships confined for 60 days after a collie tested positive for rabies. Dogs found at large will be killed as officials trace the outbreak from Murray City to Hocking County.
Seven hundred American children greeted Col. Charles A. Lindbergh at the American school in Mexico City. He plans a multi country tour to Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Panama, aiming to boost Pan American cohesion and friendly relations with Latin American nations.
Mrs. Clara Nice, 66, was hospitalized and her son Karl, 28, was held after allegedly stabbing her 32 times in the Nice home kitchen. Grandson Kenneth Bachtel, 20, overpowered Karl and helped neighbors subdue him. Police say the suspect appeared crazed and notes said Mrs. Nice had been despondent over business reverses in Girard and Struthers.
Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh has accepted invitations to visit Washington and Panama before returning to the United States. The State Department was informed by Ambassador Morrow of Lindbergh's acceptance of the invitations from the governments of the two nations.

National guardsmen blocked the investigating committee of Oklahoma's insurgent lower house from meeting in Oklahoma City. The panel sought to discuss charges of moral turpitude against Governor Henry S Johnston as troops barred their attempt to assemble.
Irene Ruminski eight died from severe burns in a Cleveland fire caused by careless use of matches. Edmund Ruminski, the father, was badly burned trying to save his daughter.
Mrs. Althe Morrison of Jacksonville slipped on paper at her home in Glouster about 7 p m Thursday night and struck her head on a door casing nearly severing her right ear. Dr von Scheele treated her, requiring eight stitches to reattach the ear.
Close of a Glouster revival led by Mrs. M. L. Kimmey of Athens with help from Rev Hingus of Sand Ridge. She will preach again Sunday and a permanent mission at the same building is being considered. Mrs. Kimmey suggested as pastor. In Toledo, Mrs. Harry Smith escaped a blaze that threatened her home, guiding her four children to safety through smoke.

Washington December 16. House Democratic leaders plan missionary work to keep the broader tax cuts in the bill while Republicans pledge to stiffen Senate resistance and President Coolidge warns of a veto for further cuts. House passage was 366 to 24. The bill repeals the three percent automobile tax and lowers corporate rates for smaller incomes while expanding exemptions and changing theater and club dues taxes.
