Couple sues over probe of son's Hocking County death
An Illinois couple filed a federal civil rights lawsuit claiming the death of their 18 year old son at Old Man's Cave in Hocking County was not properly investigated and that the official cause of death is incorrect. Plaintiffs Scott and Jacqueline Beinlich name several state and local officials, including ODNR director James Zehringer and Hocking Hills park staff, as defendants. The suit notes the incident occurred during a 2011 family reunion visit and cites a ranger report alleging the son fell and struck his head before entering water.
