The fourth day of the first degree murder trial of Tommy Harris began at 9 a.m. with a petit jury seated after screening about 200 prospective jurors. Mixed forces of paratroopers led by Capt. Kong Le and Pathet Lao appeared to fall back toward the airport as Phoumists shelled the airport.
Springfield, Ill. President-elect John F. Kennedy had Illinois electoral votes certified unanimously by the Republican controlled State Electoral Board. The tally confirms Kennedy 27 votes, Nixon 223, with Kennedy holding an overall 300 electoral votes. The board found no sufficient proof of wide fraud in Cook County.
The Associated Press reports a storm from northwest Canada bringing snow and cold air across north central regions. Winds up to 58 mph cause drifting as temperatures drop to the teens and 20s in the Rockies and 20s to 30s in the Midwest.
