Walter W. Williams the Civil War's last surviving veteran aged 117 rallied again from pneumonia in Houston Texas doctors reported slight improvement Sunday night though he remained critical. He has been fed intravenously since Friday and placed under an oxygen tent after pneumonia developed December 6. This marks his fourth attack in six months.

Heavy rains flood private Lake Edwards in Hamilton County

In Cincinnati area heavy rains swelled a man made Lake Edwards in southwest Hamilton County breaking its earth barrier. In Denver a 52 year old banker and Colorado Democratic national committeeman George F Rock was found dead in a park after a night of revelry. Autopsy cites a skull fracture as the cause of death and the scene showed blood stained clothes and pockets turned inside out.

Weekend burglars cut through inside walls to raid two Euclid Avenue firms. A wholesale jewelry firm lost merchandise valued at 75 000 to 100 000 dollars and a fur company reported 3500 dollars in coats jackets and stoles stolen.

James Reeves, 14, of South Salem is held for investigation after fatally shooting his stepfather Cecil Elliott, 50, at their Chillicothe area home. Elliott was shot twice with a .22 caliber rifle following an argument, according to sheriff's deputies.
