Long Negotiations Break In Offing For Litton Union
Three months have passed since Litton Industries Athens plant and Local 269 of the International Printing Pressmen and Assistants Union met. The union's 40 employees have worked without a contract since November 15, 1971. Talks resumed last April after a January 7, 1972, best and final offer, with five meetings this year yielding concessions on several issues. The main dispute centers on union membership and dues deductions, with the union seeking mandatory membership and dues, while Litton insists membership should be voluntary. About 200 workers are at Athens, including 120 production staff represented by three unions or not represented, and 60 in nonproduction administrative roles. The next detail appears on page 8.
