Joe Clark of Harrisonville died early this morning from a reported heart attack. He was the janitor at the Harrisonville school and collapsed after arriving with his wife before 6 a.m. The body was taken to Finsterwald funeral home at Rutland pending arrangements.
Four men were scheduled for Dec 12 arraignment on charges of making false statements to obtain veterans unemployment compensation. Named defendants are John P. Buffington of Pomeroy Kenneth D. Brooks of Mineral Nello King of Rockbridge and Leo J. North of Columbus.
David Robertson 56 owner of a machine parts factory and longtime Midwest distributor for Rolls Royce Ltd England died yesterday in St Luke's Hospital Cleveland. He had served the firm for about two decades and was a prominent local business figure.
Ohio State librarian Walter Brahm testified as hearings began on a bill to fund rural demonstration libraries. Rep Jenkins of Ohio introduced two plan options: a $25 000 annual five year demonstration fully federally funded, or a program expansion with $25 000 yearly from the state and $75 000 yearly from the federal government.

Standard Oil of Ohio announced 1 cent a gallon increases on wholesale and retail gasoline effective today, with kerosene and furnace oil up 1 plus cents and residential products raised similarly. The move follows recent crude oil cost boosts, marking one of the first retail hikes since crude costs rose.

Edward Marion Harrison, 31, the second of five federal prisoners who escaped the U S Medical Center at Springfield Missouri, was chased 14 blocks before the car was halted by Detective Carl Spriggs who fired three shots. Earlier, Charles Lee McIntosh, 24, was recaptured in Jackson Tennessee while attempting to board a plane after crash landing another aircraft. The remaining three fugitives remained at large and terrorized a farm family with a pitchfork and a home made knife before fleeing in a stolen car after obtaining three guns.
Monsignor James H. Cotter age 90, longtime pastor of St. Lawrence Catholic Church for 58 years, died after a two week illness. Born in County Tipperary Ireland, he grew up and was educated in New York City and arrived in Ironton in December 1889 after serving as assistant pastor at Lancaster and pastor at Zaleski.
Federal Judge Paul Jones agrees to a stay of his ruling declaring rent controls unconstitutional pending government appeal to the U S Supreme Court. Acting House Expediter Tighe Woods supported the stay citing risk landlords would act before the high court ruling.
Lorain County poultrymen faced losses selling eggs in October as production costs reached 84 cents per dozen, higher than retail prices. County Extension Agent Leland Schuler released the findings based on raisers’ records.
In Washington lawmakers push to curb the Emergency Foreign Aid Bill to 300 million, arguing shortages at home require deeper cuts. The Senate had approved 597 million, while the House panel trimmed to 580 million after adding China and designating 60 million for that country.

Common Pleas Judge Frank L. Johnson barred using Wilberforce State College or State College at Wilberforce for the university campus. The court kept Wilberforce University name with AME Church possession and ordered the state school renamed College of Education and Industrial Arts at Wilberforce.

Otterbein College in Westerville allows smoking and dancing in the new student union after a vote. President J Gordon Howard announced the decision following an opinion poll showing 92 percent support for both activities. Sherwood L. Reeder of Cincinnati Citizens Planning Association headed the Ohio Planning Conference and was elected president at the closing session. George C. Gibson of the Xenia Planning Commission was named third vice-president.
In Tyler Texas a light Aeronca trainer rolled down a runway and sped off without its student pilot W. B. Myers aboard. After a 65 mile chase Major O. J. Palmer and others followed the derelict plane until it landed in a field near Tignpson. Myers suffered a back sprain while the plane sustained minor damage and the gas tank was empty.
