Youthful Robbers Rob Grocery Cash Drawer

Two youths about eighteen enter J. Harvey’s grocery on the west side at nine pm. One distracts the proprietor while the other empties the money drawer, taking about fifteen dollars in coins and bills. They exit calmly. officers pursue but the pair evade capture. One suspect, Hassell Bitner, has a criminal past and was once at Lancaster reform farm after robbing a depot scale. The other accomplice remains unidentified.

Farmers Institute At Amesville Sets Busy Program

The farmers institute will be held in Amesville Wednesday and Thursday December 16 with an extensive program. Sessions include talks on bees for profit poultry yard sheep breeding lambing cattle feeding and farm management plus fruit and garden topics. An evening session features character building and important topics with addresses by George E. Scott and C D Henry. Elections of officers and a query box open. Good music promised.

Athens County Farmers Institute Program Preview

Athens County farmers institute will be held at the Opera House on Monday and Tuesday December 12 and 13. A long program features practical talks by experienced farmers on soil, crops, marketing, and farm economy. Sessions include morning and evening talks, prayers, addresses of welcome, and discussions led by local experts. New members will be enrolled and officers elected at close of the institute.

Floral tribute honors Gen Grosvenor at congress

A grand floral gift from the Ohio Wool Growers' Association greeted General Grosvenor of Ohio as the Fifty-fifth Congress convened. A towering tree of roses and chrysanthemums stood above a green grass base with a lamb figure that cried when touched, symbolizing protection for wool. The bouquet, later sent to the Grosvenors, featured American Beauty roses, vivid chrysanthemums, a small palm, orchids, lilies of the valley, and smilax for a verdant display.

Eight Hand Badly Crashed at railroad crossing

Brakeman W Riley of the KL and M railway was badly injured Monday evening at the B and C and Y crossing when his right hand was crushed at the coupling bed bars. He was taken to St Francis hospital in Columbus. His home is Hebbardsville.

Ohio University Faces Growing Attendance and Tight Budgets

The university reports rising enrollment from early century levels to hundreds, with the last two years ending Nov 11 showing 43,000 plus or 83,000 totals and 10 graduates in 1597. It notes state tax levy stabilizing finances, a regular income near 33,000, and expenses around 210,000 for the year ending Nov 15 1807, plus upcoming costs for a new building, library expansion, and gymnastic staffing.

Warren Border Held on Attempted Assault Charge

Warren Border, about thirty seven, jailed after a Saturday incident at Athens state hospital where he allegedly attempted to assault inmate Lydia Jenkins. The struggle caused a dish crash, prompting immediate arrest and a preliminary hearing. Bond set at 3000 pending grand jury action.

Pallas Club Completes Shakapoore Reading

The Pallas Club gathered Saturday at State street for a Julius Caesar reading led by Mrs. Isaac Crook. Members performed portions of the play and enjoyed a Shakspeare reading session that lasted until dark. The group planned to resume in two weeks with Miss Walker.
