President Roosevelt in a church address denounces violence and the lynching of two men, urging collective reform and condemning those who condone such acts. Governor James Rolph Jr. expresses mixed feelings while praising the president’s stance and stressing the need for public accountability.
The Silver Bridge to the Mierpass on State Route 7 is completed with four miles of new roadway by Frowine contractors of Ports. Grading and berm leveling finished after delays from October and November work. The project costs about $125,000 and eliminates curves in the route replacing the former path to provide a straightened road with an underpass and Ohio River access.
A man was struck by a car on Route 7 Wednesday and admitted to MAE Hospital in unknown condition. He was walking when hit. his parents are Mildred Coul-Ahan and Shafer, with the mother listed as a Holzer Hospital School member.
The Ohio hospital announced the death of a seven year old Vallia Boy after an illness. T.-Paul and Dr. and Mrs. Serg were named in relation to the case and the events surrounding the boy’s passing.
In Columbus four hundred Ohio Republicans endorsed a sound money policy and urged President Roosevelt to revalue gold to the 1900 standard of $20.67 an ounce. Former Attorney General Turner led the keynote, attacking Democratic monetary policy while Senator Simeon Fess denounced the NRA and urged opposition to making emergency measures permanent.

George Peek heads to the White House after Secretary Wallace questions AAA code success versus crop reduction. Most AAA codes except raw farm produce processing are shifted to NRA, altering code negotiations including milling packing and canning.
In New Orleans the Huey P. Long faction agreed to call a new sixth district election to choose Bolivar Kemp's successor. Governor Allen signaled willingness to set the vote. Convictions of three pro Long election commissioners for false returns boosted reformists amid polling disputes and district disorder.
Secretary of Agriculture Wallace formally backed the Copeland Bill before a Senate commerce sub committee as hearings opened. He cited changes in advertising practices, discovery of habit forming drugs, and the booming cosmetic industry as reasons for tighter control of the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906.
New York December 7. Building operations show a definite uptrend with 1934 expected to exceed 1933 and 1932. L Seth Schnitman of Dodge Corp says the standout development is a sharp rise in residential building. Contracts in 87 states east of the Rockies totaled 23,015,700 in November, up 23 percent from November 1932 and above October’s 2,525,700.
Pasadena, California reports its first dry day after repeal of the 1888 city ordinance. Police said there were no intoxication arrests on the first day under the new legal status, marking a sober opening in 45 years of prohibition.
John F. Zook a truck driver and amateur wrestler faced a first degree murder arraignment in the Lloyd Warner lynching case in St Joseph Missouri. Witnesses identified him as the man who threw gasoline on Warner while he was burned.
Philippine Senate president Manuel Quezon and insular leaders arrive in Washington to push a new deal for political freedom that safeguards the islands’ economic stability. About 100 Philippine colony supporters greet them with placards praising Quezon as a champion of a new deal.

Charles Rutherford of Maple Shade, arrested after a Sayre & Carman store robbery, confessed to the June A W Puliens station agent theft, the Charlies Harrington store burglary, and the Ward Bros. filling station robbery. He named Wayford Rathburn as involved, who planned a Womeldorff & Thomas Hardware heist but escaped from Gallia County Jail.
A border skirmish at Park Street ends with the death of Patrolman Dorne C. Melton 31 and two Mexican smugglers Higinio Perez and Francisco Gonzalez. Perez and Gonzalez hailed from Juarez Mexico.
Ravenna representative James A. Jones was named Republican floor leader of the Ohio House to replace Charles H. Jones who resigned. The caucus after the vote selected Jones by a 21 to 2% margin over Horace Keifer of Clark County for the minority post.
Athens County Prosecutor John W. Bolin said he will seek Supreme Court review of Fred Moore’s man slaughter conviction. The Court of Appeals reversed citing the judge’s absence during part of closing arguments. Bolin argues that absence alone does not justify reversal. This marks Bolin’s third Supreme Court appeal during his tenure.
President Roosevelt increases direct country contact as he creates the National Emergency Council to run a central information bureau in Washington and establish similar bureaus in about 8,000 counties to relay factual government activity through the Recovery program.
Marietta December report shows Municipal Judge Erb urging a whipping post for a man who worked on a public charity project and spent his wages on liquor. George Metcalf father of eight on a CWA project was fined $100 plus costs for intoxication but the judge suspended the fine if he stops drinking and supports his family.
Cleveland reports Henry A. Beckerman was indicted for participating in an arson plot to burn four factory buildings for a $40 000 insurance gain. He was arrested by New York detectives as he left a hotel and was to be arraigned in New York pending Cleveland authorities arrival. H H Felsman, long time associate, accuses Beckerman of arranging the insurance fraud.
Governor William Langer invoked the state embargo law to halt beef cattle shipments from North Dakota amid market concerns while lifting the prior wheat embargo. Cattle sales within the state remain allowed to packing plants in Fargo and other points, with finished meat free to move out of state.
Gallipolis city commission established a municipal airport by leasing Twin-Cities Airport from Dr. C. E. Holzer for one dollar per year. The city plans to seek federal funds to improve the landing field and join a Pittsburgh to St. Louis airline route.

The first project in Ohio for a $4,000,000 welfare building program seeks construction of an institution for the feeble minded at Apple Creek costing 301,000,000. The Federal government would be repaid over years from patient payments. Plans also call for four cottages at Hawthorneden with Cleveland State Hospital, ten at Dayton State Hospital, and two wings on the Athens building. Additional approved projects include Belpre water works with a $72,000 cost, $56,000 loan, and $16,000 grant.
New York December 7 The first day of repeal brought about 385000 dollars in customs revenue. Henry C Stuard assistant collector of customs disclosed the figure. About ten percent was duties on pliers with the rest from wines and spirits drawn from bonded warehouses. Approximately 3000 cases of liquor were withdrawn from 70 or more warehouses yesterday.

In Bluefield West Virginia on December 7 a 21 year old Mercer County man Ellis Nichols prepared a home remedy for a cow and pushed the medicine down the animal’s throat. He died of rabies the same day. Earlier two cows and a dog also succumbed to rabies.
