Salary Increases OK'd for Officials

Middleport council voted last night to raise salaries for the mayor, clerk, treasurer, and councilmen but the action was later deemed illegal by Village Solicitor Cedric Clark. The ordinance was to be wiped from records and the boosts will not take effect. The mayor would have risen from 600 to 750 dollars, clerk from 540 to 690, treasurer from 200 to 300, while councilmen would gain 48 to 24 dollars annually with a plan to restore 48 in 1950. The meeting also covered traffic light timing, property rights referred to committee, telephone requests from United Telephone Co, and a treasurer report showing funds across several accounts. A. A. Dillard and Harold Chase concluded terms. John Zerkle was absent.
