Athens Country Club eyed for sewer project expansion

Athens County Commissioners discussed adding the Athens Country Club and adjacent Country Club Road to the Route SOW sanitary sewer project. Rick Oremus, director of operations for the club, explored feasibility and costs, noting a potential 40 new taps and possible disruption to the golf course. A Dec 22 meeting with project engineers was set to obtain a ballpark cost estimate before a final decision.

Athens County aims energy savings program for large buildings

Upgrade Athens County seeks a three year program to cut energy use in 25 large buildings over 50 000 square feet with a target of at least 30 percent reduction by 2018. The county would fund the first year at 53000 dollars and participants would pursue Energy Star certification using Portfolio Manager.

Pike deputy charged in gun death of neighbor

Deputy Joel Jenkins of Pike County faces involuntary manslaughter charges after a neighbor, Jason Brady, 40, was shot in the head at Jenkins residence in Waverly. The off duty deputy reported an accidental shooting as investigators, including BCI, gathered at 501 E Seventh St. A2.
