Governor Cox’s conference with miners’ officials ends at 2 15 p m. officials leave hopeful for settlement and continue talks throughout the day. In Missouri Governor Gardner uses emergency powers to take coal mines under state control and calls for legislature to act if needed.
Athens and Chauncey councils plan special sessions this evening to decide on gas supplies and a proposed forty percent rate increase. Logan Gas Company warns of higher costs to cover reduced consumption as a revenue gap and delivery cuts to large users.
William O. Jenkins American consular agent is released from Puebla prison and a reply from Carranza is anticipated. Senators Fall and Hitchcock were at the White House as the news arrived. Frank Rauch buys the C B Henderson home at Court and President streets and plans to move in soon with his family.
Federal Judge Killits ordered the Toledo Rail Light Company to resume streetcar service pending a franchise decision. Cars planned to run late today, with fare changes: street cars six cents and transfers two. buses cut to five cents with transfers. If no franchise agreement by January 16, the company may withdraw in ten days.
Local coal dealers report only one of four holds stock as union mines idle until a labor agreement is reached. Some cooperatives supply a small amount for the city, but remains insufficient to meet demand. Dealers expect higher prices if government price controls loosen or disappear.

A telephone message to Zapata County Judge A P Spohn reports Mexican bandits raided the Clareno ranch 11 miles below Za pat a along the Rio Grande. They looted the general store, bound the keeper, and swam back to Mexico with provisions and stolen horses. Captain W Hanson and Senator Fall were informed.
W R Rogers of Toledo councilman was brought to Lancaster from Toledo and charged with burglarizing the Pleasantville bank on February 10 1919. He was released on a $5000 bond furnished by D S Regan Columbus agent for the Chicago Bonding Company and plans to return to Toledo tonight claiming an alibi.

Mason R. Strong and his wife are found dead after a violent night in Passaic New Jersey. Three children are critically wounded and others are unconscious with severe injuries. Nina Strong managed to call for help after the attack. Police describe a grim scene in the Strong home and say the father attacked his family before slashing his throat.
The immigration officer told a House committee that a weak border patrol enables aliens to enter the United States. He cited crossings in small boats and vehicles and said hundreds are detected and turned back. Cronin blamed masterminds guiding aliens on what to say and do at apprehension.
