Ruling Limits Justice of Peace Jurisdiction in County
Judge Ogers of the Common Pleas in Franklin County ruled that Justice of the Peace jurisdiction does not extend beyond the township except for liquor cases. The decision affects numerous Hocking County cases especially school offenses and ends the practice of routing all school cases to one justice regardless of offense location. The ruling aims to curb heavy court costs and high fees, noting past trials where residents were moved long distances for adjudication. John Miner of Reynoldsburg is visiting the Stallsmiths at 293 Hocking Avenue, here since Thanksgiving for Stallsmiths birthday.
