Indian forces report a defensive crossing into East Pakistan near the Tripura capital Agartala as five U.S. supplied F86 jets bomb and strafe the city and its airport for 20 minutes. Civilians are killed and wounded as shelling continues around refugee camps.
A fourth joint House Senate committee in Columbus reads a compromise income tax bill amid a nine month budget tax deadlock. Gov. Gilligan eyes signing the interim budget after a tense day with the House passing a $207 million December budget.
Saigon dispatch says American combat fatalities remained under ten for the eighth straight week with nine U S deaths from enemy action. U S headquarters notes 78 wounded, seven noncombat deaths, and 33 missing after a helicopter disappearance near Da Nang.
Prime Minister Golda Meir meets President Nixon to ease tensions between Israel and the United States. She is expected to seek renewed Phantom jet fighter-bomber deliveries, though officials say no firm commitment is anticipated as Phantom deliveries have been halted.

Cambodian forces abandoned Baray after repeated attacks by the North Vietnamese 9th Division. Authorities said the 20,000 man northeastern front was near collapse as Baray, 60 miles northeast of Phnom Penh, was evacuated by several government battalions on Wednesday.
