In Lor rane Aug 14 a Red Cross searcher moves through a hospital ward visiting patients with bags of supplies. She calls herself a Red Cross searcher, says the work is a sideline, and explains missing men reports from Paris while helping soldiers and locals.
French troops push toward Guiscard and Ing Chauny near Noyon and Ham while advancing north and east of Soissons. American forces join in the drive toward Vregny and moving along the Terny Sorny to Coucy le Chateau road.
British troops have captured Mont St. Quentin and moved a mile north of Peronne as the city nears encirclement. French forces push east of the Ailette river toward Coucy le Chateau while Kemmel Hill in Flanders is reported secured. North of the Scarpe lines, Plouvain is held and 1000 yards of front north of Arieux en Gohelle are occupied.

On a pound basis rice 11 cents sugar 13 cents dried beef 28 cents fresh beef 15 cents beans 6 cents flour none lard 25 cents soap 15 cents bread 10 cents. Police ordered to enforce the rates. Gasoline and coal oil prices to be fixed later.
Athens county will send recruits in three groups. Six colored men depart for Camp Custer Michigan on Tuesday morning. Thirty limited service men head to Camp Sherman at noon by B&O. Ninety nine general service picks travel by special train Thursday to Camp Sherman. The local draft board will forward medical examination blanks for registrants unconditionally rejected. About 150 men are deemed physically or mentally unfit. There is speculation whether the government will use some for special war work.

Newark New Jersey August 31Ingold and the Phoenix two new fabricated steel ships displacing 7800 gross tons each will take the water here today at the Submarine Boat Coronation plant. They are sister ships to the Agawam. The ships were built of structural bridge steel plates.
