New Industry Opens in Athens for Tomato Canning
Joseph Higgins and Des Antle of Glouster launched a tomato canning factory on Saturday with twenty acres of contracted tomatoes at twenty to twenty five cents per bushel. The plant aims to 1500 to 2000 cans daily, with expected annual output of five to eight thousand bushels and employment for about twelve locals. The foreman is an experienced canner and the facility can also process other vegetables, signaling a promising local industry.

Former Athenian John Graham Dies in Columbus
John Graham 57 former Athenian resident died at home in Columbus after weeks of illness following a severe fall while attempting to climb into a wagon. Born and raised in Athens he spent most of his life there before moving to Columbus where he worked as a traveling salesman. Remains were brought to Athens and interred Monday. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Death of Local Resident From Stroke At State Hospital
William Lyons of Coolville died at the state hospital Sunday from complications of apoplexy. He had been unconscious for several days and a patient for about a year. He leaves three sons and two daughters. One son, Dr. Lyons, is superintendent of the state hospital at Spencer, West Virginia. The remains were taken to Coolville Tuesday for burial.

Exhibits showed quality over quantity with premium stock and sheep well represented, fruit and canned goods strong in quality, and balloon ascension with a parachute jump adding spectacle.
