Kissinger seeks to retain state aides after switch

Kissinger plans to ask most key state department officials who served under out going secretary Rogers to stay on when he becomes secretary. Officials said the move aims to keep staff intact to gain confidence and boost morale. Skylab 2 crew will focus telescopes on the sun concentrating on bright spots and black holes in the outer gas shell. They have logged 139 hours of telescope work by the 32nd day of a 59 day earth orbit.

Stockholm Gunmen Seized After 132-Hour Bank Siege

In Stockholm two gunmen who held four hostages for 132 hours were captured by police. The hostages, including 21 year old Kristin Enmark, described fear but relief that no one was harmed and expressed concern over police actions.

Man Slain In Pomeroy on Main Street

A father of three, William Harden, 34, was shot and beaten on Pomeroy’s Main Street near Duds and Suds Coin Laundry around 2 40 a.m. James Cundiff, 34, Racine Route 1, is in the Meigs County jail as a suspect. A handgun was found in the suspect’s car and witnesses described a small vehicle leaving the scene. Harden had been working late at his office on East Main.

Fair Attendance Drop Reported At Ohio State Fair

The 120th Ohio State Fair attendance Tuesday fell from last year due to hot humid weather. In Meigs County, agents and investigators, including Herman Henry of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, continued to probe the death of Harden whose body was found near the fair area. Autopsy was ordered by Dr Ray Pickens the county coroner. Harden survived by a wife two daughters and a son and other relatives. Funeral services set for Saturday 1 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home with burial in Letart Falls Cemetery. Friends may call after Thursday noon.
