Premier Hazza Majali of Jordan was killed by a time bomb in his Amman office. The blast, reportedly ordered by King Hussein, killed ten and wounded fifty in two coordinated explosions. Nasser blamed as a symbol of Arab politicking, with UA R propaganda rivalry noted.

Police powers in effect after Jacksonville racial violence

In Jacksonville Florida after two days of racial violence emergency police powers were set. Police arrested 138 people including many Negro youths implicated in vandalism as stores and markets were hit with bricks and firebombs. Mayor Burns banned large gatherings and unnecessary traffic. Negro swimmers stoned at Chicago beach protest

At a South Side Lake Michigan beach the Chicago NAACP chapter held an integrated outing. About 30 Negroes and seven whites attended to protest past incidents. The party was stoned and jeered by around 50 white bathers. two Negroes were injured and a white youth was arrested as police escorted the group away.

No Survivors in Dakar Airliner Crash

A four engine Air France Superconstellation sank in about 60 feet of water off Dakar after circling for a landing. All 63 aboard including 55 passengers and 8 crew are presumed dead with some bodies recovered. Naval craft and helicopters located the hull near the ocean floor. Weather was cloudy and rain showers preceded the plunge.
