Dr. Irvin V. Shannon 35 of Louisiana will replace Lu cius R. Ranson as director of social service in Ohio University Department of Sociology at the start of fall term. He will teach The Theory of Social Service and Poverty and Dependence while directing juvenile delinquency and mothers’ pension studies with Athens County Probate Court. He holds PhD and MA from Vanderbilt and is married to a trained social worker. He has vast experience in case work and social research.
King Leopold II of Belgium and Queen Astrid were in a touring car that swerved off a country road near Vierwaldstatter See. Astrid died within minutes from a fractured skull, the king was injured, and the chauffeur suffered broken legs and possible internal injuries. The accident occurred as the car hit a curb and rolled into the lake, with the king briefly glancing away to view a map. Astrid, formerly Princess of Sweden, was 29 and had been queen since February 23, 1994.

A black faced dehorned cow wandered North Lancaster Street for two days before Floyd Pretz of Hanlin Avenue recovered it. The animal, a Jersey with a black face, had roamed Tuesday and returned Wednesday to Mrs. L Atkinson's property where she secured it in a stable and notified police.
Three Pete sons drowned near Dragoon Arizona when an eight foot wall of water trapped a bus in a railway underpass late last night. Two others were believed dead as floodwater from cloud bursts surged into the underpass where the driver waited for water to recede.
