Fire Wrecks Firm in Martin Ferry

Flames destroyed a large part of the Associated Box Co plant in Martins Ferry Ohio on a Wednesday night. An unofficial loss estimate stood around 200000 as a block long blaze scorched a frame plant area and a lumber pile outside. Fire crews from Martins Ferry Tiltonsville Yorkville West Wheeling and Bridgeport fought the blaze for about two hours. Four firefighters were hospitalized after being overcome by smoke, none in serious condition.

Perkins seeks power plant for Eastern Kentucky district

Representative Perkins of Kentucky urges the Atomic Energy Commission to place one of two new plants serving the Portsmouth atomic center in his Seventh District. He asks AEC to relay the request to a consortium of about 15 private utilities involved in supplying the power.

A 42 year old man Wycle Thompkins was shot and killed by a land owner near Youngstown after an argument over trespassing while he and a friend hunted raccoons in a field around 2:30 a.m. Police report the owner fired during the dispute.

Athens Sees 87 Degree Heat for Second Straight Day

The Athens area recorded a high of 87 degrees for a second day in a row. The previous night’s low was 50, and at 9 am today the thermometer stood at 83 degrees.

Chauncey Village treasurer Mrs. Bette Pincelli, 31, pleaded guilty to embezzling 7066.91 in village funds. She was bound to the grand jury, arraigned before Mayor Peter B. Seel, with bond set at 8000 dollars. The case followed an audit showing a shortfall and state action.

Tax Official Shot in Ambush Hired Killer Sought
