Japan Accepts Yen Float Aiming At Trade Balance Shift

Tokyo reports Japan will let the yen float on the foreign exchange market starting Saturday after two weeks of trying to hold parity at 360 to the dollar. The move is framed as a victory for Nixon's plan to improve the U.S. trade balance. Finance Minister Mizuta said the float is temporary. Bank of Japan bought a record $1.2 billion as commercial banks sold dollars amid speculation over possible weekend revaluation.

Unions Placed In Post Freeze Planning Role In Washington

Private plane crashes into house in Fairview Park

In suburban Cleveland two people were killed when a small private aircraft crashed into a house in Fairview Park. Two others were hospitalized. The fire and impact destroyed the house and the plane. One victim was 70 year old Alex Rhodes. the other was John Angelo, identified as co pilot from Illinois and Hawaii.
