It argues personal complacency worsens risk.

Navy air power debated after war with Japan
A veteran naval officer argues the United States defeated the Japanese by naval aviation and that the fleet must keep its own air arm. He notes British limits due to lack of naval aviation and questions pursuing an independent air force for strategic bombing. He suggests a combined task force of battleships carriers cruisers destroyers and submarines for flexible operations.

Women Doctors Slow to Grow in War Era Washington Letter
Douglas Larsen reports from Washington that despite wartime inroads by women in most professions, women doctors remain scarce due to long training, rising costs, and delayed earning potential. In 1941 and 1944 there were 1,146 and 1,476 women medical students respectively, with tuition up from 378 to 409 dollars by 1949. Net incomes of physicians in 1941 were low, with most earning under 4,000 dollars and few over 10,000. Women physicians are less likely to become specialists, though they favor pediatrics and psychiatry. The highest proportion of women doctors is in the West, lowest in the South.
