President Johnson on Canadian soil urged diplomacy to end the Vietnam conflict saying power alone cannot secure peace. He met with Prime Minister Pearson to discuss Viet Nam and other matters while dedicating a Roosevelt site on Campobello Island and reaffirming U S support for Viet Nam goals.
Two young men were taken into custody over the weekend as police linked the death of Darrell Robert Williams 51 found in a Van Wert County quarry to a car seen in Chicago. John William Sparks 22 was arrested in Fort Wayne after authorities traced Williams car. A Van Wert youth 20 in protective custody was later detained in Chicago. Williams had moved to Chicago in June after leaving a long time job with GE Fort Wayne.

Police said 20 persons were arrested at the East Side and Evergreen Park demonstrations. A force of 186 Cook County state and suburban police kept hecklers from threatening marchers while more than 500 white residents watched from the sidelines.
Air Force B52s bombarded Viet Cong bases near Saigon and southwest of the city while U S ground fighting slows. A grenade injury in Gia Dinh wounded four U S servicemen and an American civilian. a Vietnamese passerby was hurt as well.
