London reports that Germany and Russia may sign a non-aggression pact, stunning European leaders and threatening to reshape Britain and France’s policy on Poland. The move raises questions about Danzig and the Polish Corridor amid diplomatic confusion.
Two more prisoners, both serving murder terms, escaped London State Prison Farm as guards chased four who fled overnight. Bolan and Kuhen, age 27 and 30 from Hamilton and Belmont counties, were at a cornfield when they bolted. shots were fired but neither was hit. Eight of the 12 escapees remain at large as welfare officials investigate the earlier break.
British officials announce immediate registration of all British women and children under 18 for evacuation following male conscription. The move cites Japanese occupation of Hong Kong borders and a shifting European situation.

Reemployment requires local re certification and reassignment to vacancies based on qualifications and need. Counties list cumulative dismissals: Athens 793 Gallia 55 Hocking 446 Perry 266 Vinton 76.
The railroad union of engineers and firemen votes to strike at midnight Friday if companies do not raise the minimum weekly wage to 50 shillings. With sympathy strikes, as many as 600000 railway workers could halt transport across Britain. The current minimum is 45 shillings, with government intervention anticipated amid international tension.
A head-on collision on U.S. Route 20 two miles east of Bellevue injured seven people, six seriously. Critical conditions included Dr. J. H. Howard, a 60-year-old Chicago physician, and Mrs. Mary Stilson of Whittemore Lake Michigan. Frances Stilson, driver of the Stilson car, was thrown from the vehicle.
Capt. John Lane operator of the Gallipolis ferry boat reported he was robbed of 500 while he slept last night. Officers learned the money lay under his pillow. William Rip ley, 16, grandson of Lane, and Tuck Jones, 27, were arrested in Chillicothe and 338 was recovered. They will be returned here for questioning.
Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co may establish a million dollar factory in St. Marys Auglaize County. Company officials did not comment on the project.
The State Public Utilities Commission authorized a small reduction in electric rates for the Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Co. The rate drops to 2 cents per kWh for residential use over 200 kWh in Athens Gallipolis Hillsboro Jackson Middleport Nelsonville and Seaman. Delaware area receives a one cent per kWh cut for the first 30 kWh residential and 50 kWh commercial allowances.
Chicago AP report says about 100 tenants were saved by seconds as firemen uncovered an arsonists’ basement setup. Two men escaped through a rear basement window while investigators found baked gasoline saturated excelsior, pickle kegs, and a fuse extending to a tin box with more fuel.
Frank Mariner, 76, retired building contractor, was found dead at the bottom of a dumb waiter shaft at St Elizabeth's Hospital. A fractured skull caused his death. He was last seen at a funeral home near the hospital where a wake was held for a relative. Authorities believe he entered the shaft by mistake.

Five month old Kanetta Ann Cornell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cornell, was killed when her uncle Garrett Curnutte backed a car in the business district. The infant, leaning against the door, toppled from the front seat as her five-year-old sister opened the door. Shoppers witnessed the tragedy.
PORT CLINTON UP Christ Jacobson aged 48 dozed off in the shade with a cigarette in his hand Monday afternoon and soon his clothes were in flames. Passersby beat out the fire but Jacobson died shortly afterward.

State Tax Commissioner William S. Evatt said the state would save about $400 000 annually by reducing the discount for cigarette tax stamp dealers from 10 to 5 percent The move comes after an inquiry showed the 10 percent discount exceeded handling costs and needs tightening for economy measures.
