A lawsuit filed against Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted seeks to restore three proposed county charters on the November ballot. The charters from Athens Medina and Fulton counties would ban injection wells for fracking waste and bar using county water for drilling with Medina and Fulton also limiting oil and gas activity. The suit argues Husted's Aug. 13 ruling blocks the ballot measures despite local petitions and court orders. Names include Athens County Bill of Rights Committee leaders Dick McGinn John Howell Sally Wiley and Austin Babrow with protest by resident Joanne Prisley as county officials weigh the outcome. County residents face ongoing fracking infrastructure debates and the issue was put before voters following Athens County Commissioners approval prior to Husted's reversal.
The forecast calls for a sunny day with a high near 80 and a low around 52. Bright conditions dominate, with light winds and no precipitation expected.
