Mrs. Lewis Jones 90 former Glouster resident died in Uniontown Pennsylvania after a fall left her with a fractured leg. Widow of Lewis Jones Sr she leaves L F Jones Athens Mrs J E Jones Uniontown Mrs William Ellis Glouster Mrs M A Carter Columbus and Anne M Jones Cincinnati. L F Jones brought the body to Athens and services will be announced later.
C. C. Stillman federal relief administrator for Ohio said direct relief will continue in September with a 6 million dollar allotment for that purpose. The September total, down slightly from August, covers direct relief administrative costs and FERA projects including clerks in public offices and women’s production units. Hopkins intends to abolish direct relief after October.
Los Angeles reports funeral rites for Will Rogers at the Hollywood Bowl at 2 pm with Conrad Nagel and Rupert Hughes presiding. After public services, private rites for family and 125 guests follow at Wee Kirk O the Heather. Wiley Post is honored in Oklahoma with in state ceremonies and First Baptist Church services. An aviation memorial in New York is set for Floyd Bennett Field at 2 pm tomorrow.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cevilla Founds aged 30 who died at her daughter’s home in Coolville will be held Thursday at 10 am at the Salvation Army Hall. Burial follows at West State Street Cemetery. Widow of Albert Founda she leaves four daughters Mrs. Lemasters Mrs. Leslie Brown and Mrs. William Bailey and Mrs. Minnie Porter all of Athens and a son Bert Founds of Greenbrier West Virginia.
Earl Diz Wilson well known distributor of the Ohio Examiner in Southeastern Ohio pleaded not guilty to an obscene literature indictment when arraigned Tuesday before Judge O F Rowland in Athens County Common Pleas Court. Wilson was indicted by the Athens County Grand Jury three weeks ago on charges similar to those that sent Grover W Fleming to the Ohio Penitentiary for up to five years. Trial date not set.
Capt. Andrew Edgington, 62, famed river pilot who steered the Steamer Tom Greene to beat the Betsy Ann in a 1930 river race, died Tuesday at a Louisville hospital. At his death he commanded the Steamer Chris Greene of the Greene Line. His father and three brothers Arch, Pree and Embry were river men.
Warren Bright found a diary from 1866 of his Logan father 8 H Bright in which a trip to Ohio University is described He walked from Nelsonville to Athens when roads were poor and traveled by canal boat on another occasion The diary notes students cooked their own meals in Athens and prices of food items were high The entry also records the killing of a skunk outside a university dormitory window on August 22 1866.
Marco Jurcevich 39 told police that a Hendersonville couple who hired him to torch their home kept him captive in a small sheet metal garage for 47 days. He said the July 4 arson aimed to trigger a $5,500 insurance payout, and the couple planned to kill him after getting the money. Jurcevich was jailed with the couple for the fall term of court.
Five people die in a rain slick crash near Bowie Maryland when a car carrying visiting nuns from Washington collides with a chartered bus carrying 20 Negro passengers. The dead include John McCarthy and Sisters Bernard and Frances Gabriel and Winifred Jean Slaven. Curtis Mason, driver of the bus, is held on bond awaiting inquest.
Tulsa report says flight instructor Ward Crawford and student Fred G Hill died when their training plane crashed after the instructor and student apparently could not determine who was flying. A. W. Meadows, a commerce inspector, inspected the wreckage and suggested the accident.
Athens County and about 80 other Ohio counties face net losses under the Lawrence-Armbruster Bill, with 10 percent of motor vehicle license funds diverted to a state fund. Athens could lose about $40,000 over 15 years, diverting $7,000 annually from road maintenance. Officials plan a Thursday conference in Athens to seek fairer tax revenue distribution.
In Pomeroy Meigs County W L Hysell and Mrs Audrey Wyatt were fined $25 and costs for contempt of court by Judge EK Peoples. Fines suspended. Hysell admitted obtaining a juror list before the grand jury session and said the motive was a five cent bet with his son. Wyatt had talked to jurors about Eugene Wyatt's case before indictment for driving while intoxicated.
The Athens County petit jury will report for duty in the courtroom at the Courthouse on Tuesday September 3, Judge O F Rowland announced today. Originally the jury had been instructed to report September 9.
In Nel sonville area a zebra mule from a circus lineage works at Forest Dempsey’s Mud sock coal mine. Dempsey bought the striped animal from Dayton and plans to shoe front feet with rear legs to be fitted later. The six year old mule, mother bred to a zebra, could yield an odd progeny as stork is expected at Dempsey’s stable.
The trio Dick Arnett the pilot his bride Eleanor and Burnside Smith died when their plane crashed on a western mountain. Experts said Arnett had just a tiny margin of elevation and would have cleared the spur with slightly more clearance.

James Misner two year old son of Mr and Mrs Reuben Misner died suddenly today at Clarks Chapel due to heart condition. Funeral services set for Friday at 1 AM at Clarks Chapel with burial in the adjoining cemetery. He is survived by his parents a brother Rudy and grandparents Anna Lent of Logan and Charles and Mrs Misner of Frost.
POMEROY Ohio three men John Terrel Henry Butcher and Orville Hawley were indicted for burglary by the Meigs County grand jury on Tuesday. The same session did not return any indictment in the Bradbury wagon accident case where two people were killed when their wagon was struck by a truck driven by Vonley Jordan of Rutland. Jordan faced no indictment.
Coroner E Smith scheduled an autopsy today on the body of Harry Krantz 29 of Cleveland whose body was recovered from a lake after he disappeared from a Saturday dance.

Ed Bryer longtime village cobbler in Woodsfield died after a heart attack while entering his car. He finished work, stepped into his auto and, after coasting two blocks, the vehicle stopped at the curb with no damage. Bryer had served for over 44 years.
