Governor White said the new tax program is not perfect but will work with time during his principal address at Crooksville in the dedication of the municipal building. He also noted support for foreign immigration halts and opposition to debt cancellation. The event took place on August 21.
Governor White marked his 59th birthday in Columbus today. He stayed at the Executive Offices as orders from his daughter Miss Mary White kept him from out of town invitations and engagements. A family dinner featured a birthday cake at the mansion.
Governor White contrasts Republican and Democratic views on unemployment and debt while urging balance between homes and profits. Congress member Underwood opposes foreign debt cancellations and questions immigration. Clarence J. Brown praises new local structure as state government faces issues.
Frank Hawks, ex army captain and author of Speed, set a new U S record by flying from New York to Fort Worth in 7 hours 57 minutes. He stopped in Evansville for fuel, then continued through a snow storm to arrive at 4 40 p m with New York newspapers in hand. The 1400 mile trip averaged 187 miles per hour.
Columbus district income taxes paid to the Federal Government for the year ending June 9 show the smallest decrease among four Ohio districts. Ohio taxpayers contributed 60,002,613.37 dollars, down 24 percent from 1930. the district paid 8,146,035.20 dollars, an 11 percent decline from the previous year.
Cleveland patrolman Harley Kinney says he cannot recall insulting war dead after a delegate from the American Legion asked Governor White to remove him from the force. Kinney recalled only telling hotel guests to stop throwing water from a window at the Hollenden during the convention. Russel Frizzell of Portsmouth filed the petition.
Wheat is buying Canyon News subscriptions at 75 cents per bushel this week in Canyon Texas. Farmers may use wheat to pay renewals and to attract new subscribers, with the goal of supporting local readers and sustaining the paper.
Weather notes show Phoenix at 104 and Willis at 96 with lows around White River 36 Cochrane 42 and Port Arthur 42. General conditions are fair to favorable with tonight's outlook improving in this vicinity.
Dr. J. N. Brown a former Athens dentist was killed in an accidental rifle discharge near his home. The rifle fell from a coat causing a bullet to strike him as he returned from watching his son. A bystander located the body.
Dr. Brown, a Ohio University and Ohio State University educated dentist, died after an accident near a creek while visiting Medina. Funeral services by the Masonic Order will be held in Medina and another in Athens, with burial at Hebbardsville. He practiced in Albany and later Athens, where he had a office in the Nelgen Block before moving to Medina three years ago. He was active in the Presbyterian Church and the Masons. his wife Lena Durrell Brown also attended Ohio University.
The Utah will become a remote controlled battleship guided by radio, firing bombs and guns without a crew. The system can also steer the ship and create smoke screens from a distance, similar remote air operations without pilots.

Three men posing as friends of an absent husband forced two women and a 13 year old boy into the kitchen in Cincinnati Ohio and ransacked a home for valuables. They held the victims five hours shot and killed a pet parrot after the women surrendered money from a chest.
Governor White received a demand to oust Cleveland police Officer No. 630 accused of insulting war dead. The complaint by Russell Frizzell names the officer and cites Congressman James G. Polk aide duties. Governor lacks authority and will forward the telegram to Safety Director Ed Barry for action.
Harry B. Warner of the Intercollegiate Prohibition Association announced a plan to enlist college students in a prohibition study. A Washington conference on September 25 will set concluding drive plans with college professors and students, aiming to reach 500 colleges this year, starting with Columbus on October 17 and 18.
Fairfield County farmer Frank Moore, 57, had a warrant issued for failure to provide for his mother. The warrant was mailed to the Fairfield County sheriff and Moore appeared in Columbus court claiming the sheriff gave him the warrant and sent him to Columbus.
Judge Samuel H. West issued 46 padlock orders in the northern district of Ohio after a Federal court hearing. The closures target residences stores pool rooms garages hotels bar rooms soft drink parlors and speakeasies accused of possession and sale of intoxicating liquors.
