Budget showdown looms as Gilligan seeks 70 million austerity

Gov. John Gilligan threatens to implement a 70 million austerity plan in 11 days unless the legislature approves an adequate budget. Labor seeks emergency two day Parliament debate on Northern Ireland

The Labor party asked Prime Minister Edward Heath to recall Parliament from vacation for a two day emergency debate in early September on Northern Ireland conditions and recent political exchanges with Ireland's Jack Lynch. Two Tank Cars Explode In Lorain County Derailment

In Lorain County near Huntington Ohio at the Akron Canton and Youngstown crossing two derailed tank cars carrying acrylonitrile exploded. Authorities feared release of deadly cyanide gas and Goodyear chemists were dispatched to assess the fire. No injuries reported.
