The Athens County Fair at the fairgrounds features top animals including hogs sheep cattle and horses judged today for numerous prizes at the Seventy ninth annual event. 4-H animal judging for boys was postponed from Tuesday to Friday afternoon by the county authorities.
The Athens Retail Merchants Association announces stores will close Thursday and Friday afternoons. W. B. Drake, president, says Thursday is the regular half holiday in summer and Friday closes to allow workers to attend the Athens County Fair. Stores will close at noon on both days.
Agent T. H. Johnson announces that the top three scoring youths in county livestock judging win a free trip to the Ohio State Fair to compete against county winners.
The fair features two afternoon races begun at 1:80 with the 2:28 pace and 2:28 trot in three heats each. Seventeen pace horses and 11 trot horses entered, with 97 total racing entries through Thursday and Friday. Miss Iris Heimberger a 29 year old stenographer from Pataskala died at Mt Carmel Hospital hours after falling into Buckeye Lake. She had been visiting with her father and relatives when she vanished under the water. Boy Scouts rescued her after her screams attracted help. she was unconscious on arrival and her body was moved to Pataskala.
Mrs. Aimee Semple McPherson allowed reporters into her Malibu Beach sick room and denied striking her mother, Minnie Kennedy. She said they argued but that her mother received a broken nose when she fell face down during a tantrum.

Arthur Poling Marion Township constable will serve at least one year in Hocking County Jail after Judge A M Ellinger sentenced him Tuesday morning for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A $50 fine plus costs was added. Poling was found guilty last Friday and arrested two weeks ago by Deputy Sheriff L F Hammond.
