Corn Disease Reappears Affects Ohio River Valley Fields

County Agent William P. Smith warns a corn virus that devastated over 10 000 acres in Scioto and Ohio River valleys last year has returned. Frank Mills Jr and Thomas E Jones near Swan Creek report widespread stunting and symptoms in several counties along the Ohio River. Dr Blair Jenson of Ohio State University notes heavy infection in Southern Ohio with visible symptoms likely for two weeks. Smaller ears and reddened leaves appear as the disease progresses. Farmers are urged to inspect fields and report suspicious signs to extension agents while researchers search for resistant hybrids.
