Police said a speeding car on Elvis Presley Boulevard struck mourners outside Graceland killing two women and injuring a third as hundreds gathered for Elvis Presley’s private funeral. Three women and a man were arrested nearby.
Thousands waited in the Memphis heat outside Graceland to see Elvis Presley's coffin as police closed gates at 6 30 pm after a two second glimpse. Reported by Eric Newhouse AP.

Washington AP report on Senate opponents led by Thurmond Hatch and Helms pushing to defeat the Panama Canal Treaty. They seek to rally support through talks with officials in Panama and the Canal Zone, while Linowitz says the treaty draft is near completion for next month’s Senate consideration. Kissinger endorsed the treaty, citing U.S. interests.
