Rhodes Signs Osteopathy Bill for Ohio College

Gov James Rhodes signed the first Ohio college of osteopathy into law at Ohio University in Athens. The measure, approved by the General Assembly last year, allocates 670000 dollars for the current biennium mainly for planning. The Ohio Osteopathic Association has pledged 2 million dollars over six years to support dean, faculty, and course development.

Dogs Aid Alcoholics in Bridgeport Halfway House

In Bridgeport Connecticut a halfway house for alcoholics uses dogs named Brandy Ginger Blackberry and Cognac to help residents. Bob Ryan executive director of the Guenster Home says dogs provide emotional support as part of recovery. Feed a dog and watch him improve the mood.

Cyclist Injured in Pomeroy Motorcycle Crash

Charles Stearns 21 of Pomeroy Route 3 was hurt when his motorcycle left County Road 36 in Chester Two and struck an embankment. Methodist Unit Has Meeting at Starr Church

The United Methodist Women of Starr United Methodist Church met in the social room with Mrs Hilas McAfee presiding in the absence of the president Mrs Ralph Farrar S. The group sent 43 cheer cards and made 13 visits to shut ins in the prior month. Birthday gifts for Mrs John Carter and Mrs Willard Thomas were given by secret sisters. Mrs Anna Wolfe received a wedding anniversary gift. Mrs Mildred Thomas won the traveling gift. Visitors included Mrs Alice Howell of New Straitsville and John and Connie Wolfe. The hymn In the Garden was sung. Scripture was read by Mrs McAfee and Mrs Joyce Carter. Readings were given by Mrs Hilas McAfee and Mrs Joyce Carter, followed by refreshments.

Regents Plan Recruitment Drive for Ohio Colleges

The Ohio Board of Regents announced a statewide effort to recruit more Ohio high school graduates into Ohio colleges. Chairman Marvin L. Warner said facilities are underutilized only in need of better promotion and awareness. Details remain undisclosed with guidelines to be set at a meeting at Youngstown State University on September 19.

A 68 year old Akron resident Mary Pickett died after a chartered bus carrying 45 elderly passengers overturned on rain slick Ohio 67 south of Melmore in Seneca County. The bus, from three housing projects for residents 62 and older, left Akron at 7 30 a m Friday bound for a shrine in Carey.
