Canton murder probe continues as Louis Mazer’s alibi weakens under federal examination. Prosecutors report Mazer confessed to inconsistencies about his movements before and after the killing of Don R. Mellett, Canton publisher.
Louis Mazer held on first degree murder charges in the Don R. Mellett case faced renewed questioning in Cleveland. Witnesses include Norman Clark and Pete Koscholk, who linked Mazer to the crime scene and a plot to assault the publisher. McDermott, the prime missing suspect, remains at large as investigators press for answers.
In North Universal, Pa., Mrs Mary Osko a recluse was found dead with a crushed skull and bound limbs after alleged bandits broke in seeking a $10000 hoard. Neighbors reported her absence from her nightly walk led to the discovery and a search that left the house in disarray.
Cleveland August 18. Josiah Kirby once a famed sales man and ex head of Cleveland Discount company and now serving a federal sentence at Atlanta for mail misuse is reported to be a tuberculosis victim according to advices from Atlanta.
Floodwaters from Federal creek flood Amesville and surrounding areas as the Hocking River nears flood stage. Reported impacts include hotel inundation, business closures, washed bridges, roadways under water, and residents moving from homes amid four days of rainfall.

Hall, a party to the Jacksonville contract, said Ohio miners must honor the current agreement.
Cleveland Aug 18 Ohio coal operators met to discuss a possible joint conference in Columbus Aug 24 with mine union officials to reopen the Ohio mines. Officials would not comment on yesterday’s talks and no wage statements were issued as most mines idle while unions seek Jacksonville wages.
Charles Massey the traveling salesman and five Batavia boys are stranded on a small island formed by the Little Miami river north of Batavia after heavy rains. They are safe for now but depend on weather to improve today.
