Meigs County Fair launches its 101st year with an 8 p m religious service by the Meigs County Ministerial Assn led by Rev J B Stephenson of Delaware Pomeroy. Admission is free tonight with fees starting Tuesday. tents, exhibits, rides, and racing program setup fill Rock Springs grounds.
Miss Patricia Blakeslee bride elect of Melvin Circle was guest of honor at a shower hosted by Mrs. Harold Lohse and daughter Jennifer at the Lohse home on Wolfe Drive. Prizes went to Mrs. Hayman Barnitz, Mrs. Charles Blakeslee, and Mrs. Virgil Roush. A pink umbrella cake table centerpiece and a dessert course followed the gift opening.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence S. Jordan and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stewart hosted a wiener roast and party at the Jordan home to honor Shirley Faye Jordan and Sandy Stewart on their 13th birthdays. Guests shared games and dancing with a large group of family and friends in attendance.
Paul L. Snyder, 17, of Racine Route 2, lost control on a curve on Sellers Ridge Rd. His car struck gravel, crossed the road, and overturned. He was hospitalized at Meigs Memorial with injuries to his left ankle arm and eyebrow and was cited to juvenile court.

A Middleport juvenile had his driver's license suspended for three months on a reckless operation charge by Judge F H O'Brien after being cited into Juvenile Court by Middleport police. Mayor Lee Smith warned youths that reckless motorcycle bicycle or automobile operation near the swimming pool area will bring court action and license suspensions.

Four Mid dleport firemen attended the annual Ohio State Firemen's Association convention in Toledo at the Commodore Perry Hotel. Delegates were Gerald Anthony, Russell Mills, Robert McElhinney, and Bob Byer. The event included a station visit and a Toledo Fire Department training school declassification. The objective was to update antiquated state laws and secure more funds for both paid and volunteer departments.
About 5000 people attended Mason County Fair day. The Marcus Weavers of Letart won the sweepstakes family award for their fair contributions. They earned 17 blue ribbons six red and two white and received a small trophy and a large loving cup to be awarded to future winners.
The Fourth District Court of Appeals orders Ralph E. Ross to surrender to Sheriff Robert Hartenbach after his life sentence for the shotgun slaying of wife Charlotte was appealed. Ross remains free on bond pending Supreme Court action and is to be held in custody before delivery to the Ohio Penitentiary. A Middleport village council special meeting is set for 7:30 tonight at village hall.
MIDDLEPORT Mrs. G A Stuart of Charleston W V former Middleport resident observed her 85th birthday with a dinner party at the Martin Restaurant. Daughters and sons in law Charles and Mrs Pelzell from Charleston led the gathering joined by her son Charles Stuart and many local friends and former neighbors. The dinner featured a lit cake flowers favors and a sterling silver friendship pin presented by Mrs Harley.
N Straitsville and relatives gathered for Campbell and Friel reunions in Pomeroy on Sunday. The Wallace family visited relatives in Warren Pennsylvania while Lillico and Holleran families traveled to New Lexington and Columbus for weekend visits.
