Russians Seem Likely to Attend Korean Talks

At the United Nations the prospect grew that Russia would win a seat at the Korean political conference if its allies North Korea and China want it there. India’s participation dimmed as Western nations pushed a resolution to defer India’s role, while Australia and New Zealand backed a compromise. The U S and Britain clashed over including India, with Lodge opposing a British plan and Krishna Menon denying candidacy. Col. Ben Limb urged a text showing Russia on the communist side.

Two Men Hurt In Blast At Imperial Ice Cream Plant

An explosion at the Imperial Ice Cream Co. plant on East State Street injured two men. Edward Sycks 25 of Athens suffered severe burns and was taken to Sheltering Arms Hospital. Franklin Pennel of Chauncey suffered burns to his left hand and arm. Pennel told officials that a can of gasoline and a can of paint ignited when a match was dropped, causing the blast in a central hallway. Fire crews responded with two trucks and a squad car, extinguishing the fire with chemicals.

Surge of Polio Delays Meigs County Schools Opening

Meigs County schools will open September 8 instead of August 31 due to a polio outbreak. Superintendent O O Patterson said the County Board of Education approved the delay Saturday night, aligning with Pomeroy exempted village schools. County reports a record 18 polio cases as of Saturday.

Girl Injured by Boat Prop at Lake Arrowhead

A young airline stewardess, Boni Buehler, 25, Hollywood, was mangled by a boat propeller while water skiing behind a speed boat owned by Conrad Hilton at Lake Arrowhead. She suffered the loss of her left arm and a mangled left leg, which was amputated at Santa Anita Hospital. Geary Steffen, ex-husband of actress Jane Powell, pulled her from the water.

Sailor Shot During Break From Great Lakes Naval Brig

Airman Dies In Jet Crash Near Yellow Springs

An Air Force F86 jet crashed in a pasture west of Yellow Springs after a midair collision. The pilot died in the flaming wreckage, reportedly sacrificing a parachute escape to keep the plane aloft and miss a farm home. Wright Patterson officials did not immediately identify the pilot. Man Bitten by Snake During Cult Rite in Greenville

Earl Eugene Canada, 27, was in critical condition after a snake bite during a cult religious service in Greenville. Police removed him from his home an hour and a half after the bite, as a crowd protested. He was reportedly bitten on the wrist while handling a dangerous snake during services attended by about 50 people.
