County Bank Plans Beef Cattle Improvement Program
Edison Hobstetter of the Pomeroy National Bank announced a plan to improve Meigs County beef cattle by placing five registered Hereford sires in the county and supplying farmers with affordable Hereford heifers. The project, modeled after a Gallia County program, aims to raise herd quality, expand markets, and increase farm income. The bank will sell cattle at cost, with cattle owners encouraged to replace inferior stock, and Wesley Green notes feeding costs are similar for improved and scrub cattle. The chamber of commerce backs the plan as a broader effort to utilize Meigs County resources.
