Taverns Targeted By Dry Rule Near Athens Fairs
Ohio Attorney General Hugh S Jenkins ruled no liquor can be sold within two miles of a fair, affecting Athens taverns during the fair. The city will enforce the law if upheld, with taverns near the airport potentially safe only beyond the two mile radius. Zanesville taverns plan to challenge the ruling, while the state liquor store remains unaffected. Ohio University branches at Chillicothe Portsmouth and Zanesville outline a parallel recreation program with band concerts convocations and basketball games.

Past All Dishonor review by Athens librarian Cain
William F Morse reviews Past All Dishonor by James M Cain as historical fiction set in Civil War California and Virginia City Nevada. He faults the work for lacking period accuracy and realistic character portrayal, calling its violence vulgar and the Western canvas miscast, though predicting its popularity with readers who prefer virile Western myth over accuracy.
